Cork City to Rock with New Decades Festival,

 

Ireland's Largest Fancy Dress Party is now twinned with the Irish Pub Challenge in Boston, America.

 

Cork City publicans are celebrating the popular Decades Festival again this year which will take place on the 22nd and 23 rd of August with a number of new developments. The Decades Festival in Cork has now been twinned with The Irish Pub Challenge in Boston and will look to use the same technology as the Boston festival to raise money for charity. The festival also announced a new three year sponsorship with Heineken Ireland which will ensure the festival continuous growth and aspiration to become a major National and International festival.

This year, there a record number of over 30 pubs throughout the city, they will decide upon the Decade they want to celebrate in music, fancy dress and craic!  With a brand new web site all consumers are encouraged to make the Decades Festival 2015 the best to date, by coming into the city centre in fancy dress, visiting the participating outlets and enjoying the festival atmosphere in the city centre.

Each participating outlet will choose their Decade and on the weekend will transform their outlets into the theme they have chosen, from the roaring 1920’s through to the 70’s, 80 up to the present. There will also be a special consumer prize for the best outfit over the weekend which will be independently judged where the winner plus three friends will win a night out in Cork to the value of €1,000. Bar staff in all participating outlets will also be out in their finest fancy dress outfits so watch out for some Bugsy Malone, Elvis and Liam Gallagher lookalikes!

A special charity treasure hunt will be held on the Friday night in aid of Mercy Hospital Foundation with over 20 teams representing the outlets, will participate in a pub trail competition, where they will download a special Decades app and across the outlets engage in quizzes and uploading photos. This will be the first year that the festival will look to use the web based app to manage communication, approve photos and even use push notifications mid hunt with hidden tasks for extra points, all to raise money for the Mercy Hospital Foundation.

Micheál Sheridan, CEO of the Mercy Hospital Foundation said “We are delighted to be the beneficiary of the Decades Festival’s App, and are especially grateful to the participating venues and outlets. Our mission is to support the Hospital in delivering the highest quality of patient care by raising funds to support advancements and innovation in the treatment and care of patients at the Mercy Hospital, the People’s Hospital, and funds raised through the Decades Festival App will go towards the building of a dedicated Cancer CARE Centre at the Hospital.”

Micheál continued “With one in three of us expected to have cancer at some point in our lives, it is likely we, or someone close to us, will have the experience of sitting in a consultation room and being given devastating news. At The Mercy Hospital Foundation, we want to make sure that news is told in the most supportive way possible. The specialised Cancer CARE Centre next to the Hospital will provide a dedicated, place for people who are dealing with cancer.”

The Festival sponsors, Heineken Ireland, will also be supporting the festival in house with their brands. Speaking at the launch of the festival in the Heineken Kiln, Jonathan Barry Regional Manager for Heineken said, ‘‘we are delighted to sponsor the Decades festival this year as it is important to have a festival in August that can attract tourists, visitors and Irish consumers into the city centre. We believe this festival will continue to grow with our brands”.
